For 20 years I was searching for the correct and original execution of the martial art Siu Lam Wing Chun Kyun (Shaolin Weng Chun Kuen), and therefore I was student of the Tang Family for many years and thus of the last surviving students of Grandmaster Tang Yik in Hong Kong and I traveled to the home village of the Tang Family and exchanged with the village elders. In fact the effective combat system Wing Chun / Weng Chun is often taught incomplete today, whereby it is losing its original idea and effectiveness. Tang Yik, who was known to be one of the few Wing Chun masters, was named King of the Longpole. Tang Yik never appeared in movies except in the old 8mm recordings made by his student Chan Hoi Syun and later went around the world. We practice the forms today in their original way, directness and softness, and do not let ourself be led astray by the external appearance of the martial art, as depicted in martial arts movies. Also, I refuse to disfigure the martial arts for business reasons and to lead a grandmaster cult, even if people often want to be blinded. Meanwhile, our Siu Lam Wing Chun Kung Fu is authentic and the members of the Siu Lam Wing Chun / Weng Chun families appreciate our work very much. Of course, therefore our Wing Chun is not very commercial and can not be learned from all characters. Just as the students choose our school, I take the liberty of choosing the students I expect to have good and effective cooperation with. This freedom is necessary because Kung Fu can only be passed on with great physical closeness, hand to hand, heart to heart, and mutual trust. So, we are not a fitness club or a franchise wing chun, where students rarely see the so-called grandmaster. That’s why we’ve decided against becoming a provider in organizations like Urban Sports Club. An anonymous form, sacrificing the transfer of real knowledge has only damaged the Chinese Kung Fu, and I’m glad we’ve never been part of that commercialization. Many abhor us, fortunately. In 2007 I opened the first and independent school for Siu Lam Wing Chun / Shaolin Weng Chun Kung Fu in Berlin.
