Peter Scholz began his in-depth journey into the world of Siu Lam Wing Chun in 1997 together with a group of former school friends. What began as a passion developed into a life’s mission: to teach and spread the authentic Siu Lam Wing Chun. The style, which has its roots in the teachings of the Shaolin abbot Zi Sin, is known for its efficiency and directness, which Peter Scholz particularly appreciates.
He began teaching Siu Lam Wing Chun in Berlin in 2007. A formative moment came in 2008 when he exchanged with an MMA fighter during a joint workshop. This experience made him reflect on his martial arts practice at the time. Scholz felt there were gaps in his knowledge and a lack of experience in its application. Instead of changing styles, he decided to take up the challenge and go deeper. This led him to make intensive contact with some of the world’s most skilled and respected teachers of Siu Lam Wing Chun in 2009.
In the following years, he gained insights into Siu Lam Wing Chun from the Chu Chun Man lineage and learnt from Sifu Apolo Chiu. He then focussed on the Tang family lineage, as he was particularly enthusiastic about Tang Yik’s long pole with its power and dynamic light-footedness. Between 2009 and 2012, he learnt from Sifu Michael Tang Chun Pak via email, video exchanges and corrections. In 2013, Scholz spent three months in Hong Kong for intensive training and then travelled there several times a year for a few weeks to expand his knowledge.
In 2010, he founded the Berlin School for Siu Lam Wing Chun together with his wife Bettina Pela-Scholz. Bettina, whom he met in 2003 while training with Sifu Jörg Weidner, is now a chi kung teacher and martial arts educator who makes the school an impressive place.
In 2016, Peter Scholz was able to establish contact with one of Sigung Tang Yik’s three longest-standing students, Sifu Peter Wong Wing Keung. He began to learn intensively from him in 2018. The basics and precise execution of the techniques are particularly important in Siu Lam Wing Chun, as the hand and weapon forms can be transferred one-to-one into real combat. This makes our line very effective in application today and interesting for Sanda fighters and fighters in the MMA field.
Today, Peter Scholz passes this knowledge on to his dedicated and ambitious students. Maximilian Kraft, Oliver Stenzel and Peter Scholz work together to help the youngsters to be successful in competitions. He is delighted about the many children and young people who are already mastering this wonderful martial art at a young age and is excited to see how they will bring Siu Lam Wing Chun to new heights.
